So in a few hours, Carnival's cruise ship, Triumph, will be hauled onto the shores of Mobile, Alabama. Soon after, roughly 4,000 stinky, possibly angry and perturbed passengers will make a mad dash for dry land and into the arms of an anxious attorney loved one. Now that the crippled ship is closer to dry land, CNN's helicopter of curiosity and investigation is able to transmit live pics of passengers milling around the deck in complimentary white bath robes. Other passengers hung sheets out their cabin windows with messages that proclaimed their love as well as their cries for help.
Along with these live pics, CNN has also managed to reconnect family members via phone. Several of these stranded passengers have pointed out that the 1,086 Carnival employees aboard Triumph are doing everything in their power to make things as comfortable as possible under these dire circumstances. Like handing out plastic bags for to doo-doo in. Apparently all of the communication problems that are setting everyone on edge are coming from some place near Corporate-Town. And we all know about "Corporate". Only a disengaged man in a suit would come up with the solution of putting traumatized passengers who haven't bathed in five days on a bus and taking them on a two-hour excursion to New Orleans the day after Fat Tuesday. You know there are still some hung-over hobos loitering around the bus station.
One passenger told NBC's TODAY show that conditions were "Like Katrina in the Dome, except it's afloat."
So. Let's all hope for the safe docking of Triumph later tonight. If you're more of a glass-half-empty kind of person, I suggest you watch Chad Myers over on CNN. He'll inform you of the high probability of the boat tipping over due to darkness and high winds. On a serious note, my glass is half full over here in Georgia and I'm confident that each and every soul aboard the Triumph will safely return to family, friends and loved ones.
Pssst. C'mere. I'll tell you a secret. I would totally take a Carnival cruise that's now being offered for $189. I know, right? I'm a dangerous renegade who fears not the high seas.
